Aequora Focused Intensive
When you know something needs to change—and knowing hasn’t been enough.
Maybe you’ve promised yourself that next time you’ll hold the boundary.
Have the conversation.
Trust your judgment.
Stop accommodating.
Stop avoiding.
And then the moment arrives.
Something gets activated, and the response you know so well takes over again.
You don’t have to keep responding the way you’ve learned to respond.
The Aequora Focused Intensive is a concentrated episode of individualized psychotherapy for adults who want to work directly with one recurring concern that is meaningfully affecting their lives.
Not simply more therapy in less time.
A different way of using therapeutic time.
The problem doesn’t have to affect your whole life to matter.
You can be capable, thoughtful, self-aware, and highly functional—and still have one place in your life where your usual clarity seems to disappear.
You know the boundary you need, but guilt changes your answer.
You want to make the decision, but anxiety or self-doubt keeps narrowing what feels possible.
You understand the relationship pattern, but still find yourself accommodating, pursuing, withdrawing, becoming reactive, or shutting down when it matters.
Or perhaps you can’t explain what’s happening yet.
You simply know that something keeps repeating.
You don’t need to arrive with the pattern already figured out.
Understanding what we’re working with is part of the work.
Imagine having more of yourself available when it matters.
Think about the situation that brought you here.
What becomes possible when the familiar response stops making so many of your decisions?
You say what you mean instead of replaying what you wish you’d said afterward.
You make the decision without waiting until you feel completely certain.
You allow someone to be disappointed without immediately abandoning your boundary.
You stay present in an important relationship without losing yourself inside it.
You move toward something you want without requiring fear to disappear first.
Not a life without difficult emotions.
A life in which those emotions don’t automatically get to decide what happens next.
Less time fighting with yourself.
Less energy spent trying to force yourself to respond the “right” way.
More trust in what happens when you simply respond as yourself.
This is the kind of change we’re here to work toward.
Why can something make perfect sense and still be difficult to change?
Insight matters.
Understanding where a response came from can change the way you see yourself and what you’re experiencing.
But human responses aren’t expressed only as ideas.
They can become familiar ways of anticipating, feeling, imagining, attending, and responding.
That’s why you can genuinely think:
I know I don’t need to do this anymore.
And still discover that when the moment arrives, the old response takes over.
Aequora doesn’t stop at understanding the pattern.
We create enough focused clinical time to understand what appears to be maintaining the difficulty—and then work with it from more than one direction.
Experience something different.
You can spend a great deal of time understanding how you want to respond.
Clinical hypnosis gives us a way to work with the experience of responding differently.
Within psychotherapy, we can use focused attention, imagery, suggestion, and mental rehearsal to engage with thoughts, emotions, expectations, and responses in ways that conversation alone may not.
Instead of only talking about the boundary, we can rehearse holding it.
Instead of only describing the feared moment, we can work with how you experience it.
Instead of only understanding the response you want, we can create opportunities to practice it.
Depending on what we’re working on, hypnosis may also help us explore competing internal responses, shift attention, use imagery therapeutically, and create an experiential context for the work.
The point isn’t hypnosis itself.
The point is what becomes possible when therapy becomes something you experience—not only something you understand.
Clinical hypnosis is not a separate service at Aequora. It is incorporated within psychotherapy when clinically appropriate.
You remain aware and in control throughout the process.
Research has examined hypnosis both as a therapeutic intervention and as an adjunct to established psychotherapies, with evidence of benefit across a number of applications. Results vary by problem, individual, and use, and no therapeutic technique guarantees change.
At Aequora, the question isn’t whether hypnosis is impressive.
It’s whether it is useful for the work we’re doing together.
One Focus. Four Distinct Phases.
The Focused Intensive is designed as one connected episode of care.
Each phase has a different purpose.
Orient & Formulate
90 minutes
We begin by understanding what is happening.
When does it happen?
What does it affect?
What have you already tried?
And most importantly:
What do you want to become more possible?
Together, we’ll clarify the primary treatment focus, explore what appears to be maintaining the difficulty, and establish a working clinical formulation to guide our treatment.
You don’t need to diagnose yourself or arrive knowing why the pattern exists.
That’s part of my job.
Focused Treatment Session
Up to 3 hours
This is concentrated clinical time to work with the treatment focus directly.
Instead of spending the entire appointment describing what happens outside the therapy room, we have room to stay with the work, notice what emerges, adjust our approach, and work experientially.
Treatment may incorporate CBT, Family Systems-informed or parts-oriented work, imagery, behavioral strategies, clinical hypnosis, and other experiential interventions according to your clinical formulation.
There is no standardized sequence of techniques that everyone receives.
The treatment follows the person—not a script.
Live It
Approximately 1–2 weeks
Then you return to your life.
There is nothing to manufacture and nothing to prove.
You simply notice what happens when the moments that matter actually arise.
What feels different?
What remains familiar?
Does another response occur to you?
Is there more room between what you feel and what you do?
Real life gives us information the therapy room cannot.
Integrate Session
90 minutes
Then we come back together.
Not to assume something changed.
To find out.
We’ll look carefully at what happened during the Live It period.
What shifted?
What remained familiar?
Where did you notice greater choice?
What surprised you?
What still needs attention?
We use that information to reinforce what appears useful, work with remaining material when appropriate, and determine what makes sense moving forward.

FAQs
What if I’ve already been in therapy?
That’s not unusual.
You may understand yourself remarkably well and still have a particular response that continues to take over when it matters.
Previous therapy isn’t evidence that therapy failed—or that you failed at therapy.
It becomes part of what we already know as we decide where to focus now.
Why choose this instead of weekly psychotherapy?
You shouldn’t if weekly psychotherapy better fits what you need.
Weekly treatment can provide ongoing support, broader exploration, and therapeutic work that benefits from unfolding over time.
The Focused Intensive has a different purpose: concentrated clinical time organized around one primary concern, experiential treatment when appropriate, and a deliberate return to real life before evaluation and integration.
Neither format is universally better. They are designed to do different kinds of work.
Is this hypnotherapy?
Aequora provides psychotherapy.
Clinical hypnosis is one of the therapeutic approaches I may incorporate within psychotherapy when clinically appropriate.
It is not a separate service or a substitute for clinical assessment and treatment planning.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No.
Clinical hypnosis does not require you to become unconscious or surrender control to me.
You remain aware and able to communicate, think, respond, and make choices throughout the process.
What if I can’t be hypnotized?
There isn’t a test you need to pass.
People experience hypnosis differently, and you don’t need to achieve a particular depth of trance for us to work together.
Clinical hypnosis is one potential component of treatment—not something you need to perform correctly.
Do you accept insurance?
No. Aequora is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance.
How does payment work?
Payment is handled securely through the client portal. Specific payment timing and available payment options will be reviewed before enrollment, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before making a commitment.
